In this regard, the central, as well as state governments, have been urging the citizens to stay indoors. However, following the same suite, even the State Bank of India has come up with an initiative to reduce the number of customers to visit the branch.
India’s largest lender SBI has started an initiative KYC (know your customer) from home. Under this facility, the customer doesn’t have to go to a physical branch rather can be done from home by mere sending an email to the bank. The government-owned bank has already made this communique with respective branches of the bank across the nation. This facility so far is in force till 31st May.
Doing a KYC with banks or financial institutions is one of the important steps for easy access to the facilities given by them. Lack of KYC could impact and hamper the account transactions.
The customers of other public sector banks have also been seeking this facility, moreover, the private banks, which is strong digitally and technologically may also follow SBI and reduce the customers' visits to the bank branches.
Earlier, SBI had issued an alert to customers in a tweet, it had urged customers not to share information about their banking details with anyone, neither allow anyone to access their bank account through phone or any digital device.
Moreover, in another tweet the bank had also advised customers that if they wish to transfer an emergency funds, they can use the banks' website or mobile application YONO for these services from home.
