The Income Tax Department has denied taking any decision in regard to giving an extension beyond the August 31st income tax return filing deadline. For last few days, the social media has been buzzing with rumours that the August 31, 2019 deadline for ITR filing has been extended. When the rumours came to the notice of the Income Tax Department of India, it put them to rest through its tweet citing 'the said order' in the social idea is not 'genuine.'

The Income Tax Department tweeted from its official Twitter handle on August 30 at 2:07 PM saying, "It has come to the notice of CBDT that an order is being circulated on social media pertaining to the extension of due date for filing of I-T Returns. It is categorically stated that the said order is not genuine. Taxpayers are advised to file Returns within extended due date of 31.08.2019."

For the last few days, an order masquerading as Ministry of Finance decision in regard to an extension in the ITR deadline has been circulating on various social media platforms. It created confusion in regard to the deadline for ITR filing. The Income Tax Department has already extended the earlier deadline to August 31. So, earning individuals in India are advised to file their ITR as per the deadline i.e. August 31, which means by tomorrow end of the day. If not, then these non-filers face the prospect of the taxman slapping a Rs 10000 penalty on them. If someone fails to file its ITR by the given due date, then he or she will have to face the penalty of Rs 10,000.
