7th CPC Latest News: Even as the Central government employees are yet to get a hike in their minimum pay beyond the recommendations of 7th Pay Commission from the Narendra Modi government, the Diwali gift has been extended for these Central staff in the form of an allowance. The government has decided to give Rs 1,000 as cooking allowance to confectioners and assistant confectioners working in government canteens, and this would be effective from October 1, 2019.
Issuing an order in this regard, the government has stated that hundreds of assistant cooks working in non-statutory departmental canteens at in central government offices will be given risk and hardship allowances.The announcement of this allowance just ahead of the festive season has brought cheers for these employees.
However, the fulfilment of a hike in the minimum pay from the Narendra Modi government is yet be announced. Currently, the minimum pay of the Central government employees is Rs 18,000. Citing that this amount is not enough to meet the present price index, the CG employees are demanding a hike of Rs 8,000 for the current salary has failed to impact their financial condition.
These central employees are also asking for an increase in the fitment factor from the current 2.57 times to 3.68 times, which will extend their minimum pay to Rs 26,000.
Meanwhile, the long wait of over one crore central government employees as well as pensioners for an increase in dearness allowance (DA) is yet to be fulfilled. If sources are to be believed, a decision to increase the dearness allowance of government employees is likely to be taken in the Union Cabinet meeting. In view of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, the government need to first take the approval of the Election Commission of India.

Notably, Cabinet approval will benefit 1.1 crore employees and pensioners in the central government. If the government goes ahead with this move, these employees would possibly get the maximum increase in DA by 5 percent, and their salary under the 7th Pay Commission pay will increase from Rs 900 to as much as Rs 12500 per month.
