Closing Bell: Nifty ends near 17,000, Sensex gives up gains too; auto drag the most
Domestic equity markets erased all early gains in the last hour to end in the red for the sixth straight session on Wednesday.
Domestic equity markets erased all early gains in the last hour to end in the red for the sixth straight session on Wednesday. Domestic equity barometers Nifty50 and the Sensex were down by 0.17% and 0.12% respectively on Wednesday. In another volatile session amid shimmering geopolitical tension, the Nifty slipped below 17,100 and the Sensex dropped..points to end at 17,063.25 and 57,232.06 respectively.
Outperforming the benchmarks, Nifty mid cap and small cap indices ended higher by 0.72% and 1.19% respectively.

The 12-share Nifty Bank also gave up all gains to end near 37,400.
Kotak Bank, Titan, IndusInd Bank, Tata Consumer, Bharti Airtel, Maruti, ITC, Bajaj Finance, Wipro, Infosys and Ultratech cement were among top gainers as 23 shares advanced on the Nifty and 13 stocks ended in the green on the Sensex.
ONGC, Hero MotoCorp, NTPC, L&T, JSW Steel, Nestle India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HDFC Ltd, TCS and Sun Pharma were among top drags on the two indices.
Realty, Consumer Durables and PSU Bank remained the leading sectors as auto, financial services witnessed maximum selling pressure in the closing hours.
