Your FASTag may get deactivated or blacklisted after January 31. Here is why
FASTag Update, FASTag KYC: Highways authority NHAI's ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ drive aims to discourage user behaviour of using single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle.
FASTag KYC Update, NHAI FASTag Rules: Valid FASTags with balance but incomplete KYC will get deactivated or blacklisted by banks after January 31, 2024.
Encouraging FASTag users to complete their know-your-customer formalities, in tandem with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, the National Highlways Authority of India (NHAI) said on Monday that its ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative aims to discourage user behaviour of using single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle.
The move by the NHAI comes following reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a particular vehicle and FASTags being issued without KYC in violation of RBI’s mandate. Besides, FASTags are sometimes deliberately not fixed on the windscreen of the vehicle, resulting in unnecessary delays at the toll plazas and causing inconvenience to fellow National Highway users, according to the NHAI.
The authority also said that the initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the country's electronic toll collection system and provide seamless movement at toll plazas,
The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ drive will help to make toll operations more efficient, and ensure seamless and comfortable journeys for National Highway users, it added.

What should FASTag users do? Here is what NHAI suggests
"To avoid inconvenience, users must ensure that KYC of their latest FASTag is completed. FASTag users must also comply with ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ and discard all the earlier issued FASTags through their respective banks," the highways authority said in a statement on Friday.
It also said that "only the latest FASTag account shall remain active" and that all the previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024.
"For further assistance or queries, FASTag users can reach out to nearest toll plazas or toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks," the NHAI added.
What is FASTag?
With a penetration rate of around 98 per cent, and more than eight crore users, FASTag, an electronic toll collection system operated by the NHAI, has revolutionised the collection of toll in the country.
