Hindon Airport ready to handle UDAN flights for these places from May
Budget carrier IndiGo would start services from Hindon airport to eight places including Gulbarga, Nashik, Hubali, Shimla, Pithoragarh, Jamnagar, Kannur and Faizabad, citing an unnamed AAI official.
For the promotion of regional air connectivity scheme (RCS) and not to burden Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has built civil enclave terminal at Hindon airbase near Delhi. This Hindon airport will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, said a Times of India report.
The report said that budget carrier IndiGo would start services from Hindon airport to eight places including Gulbarga, Nashik, Hubali, Shimla, Pithoragarh, Jamnagar, Kannur and Faizabad, citing an unnamed AAI official.
Some smaller airline firms will also start their services from the terminal at Hindon.
Under the ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’ (Udan) scheme, regular flights to eight regional airports will reportedly commence from May, said the report, adding that the terminal will handle aircraft carrying less than 80 passengers. The terminal will have a peak capacity to handle 300 passengers per hour. Notably, fares under the UDAN scheme are capped at Rs 2,500 per hour for a certain number of seats on each flight.
The AAI official told TOI, "We have informed airlines that had won routes from Hindon under the regional air connectivity scheme (RCS) that the airport will be ready by March 10 and they have indicated the time frame for beginning flights after arranging for aircraft, pilots and getting all clearances.”
Apart from connecting eight airports from Hindon, flights for other routes including Lucknow-Hindon-Kolkata-Jorhat; Hindon-Bhopal-Ozar (Nasik); Hindon-Jaisalmer-Udaipur; Hindon-Gorakhpur-Allahabad; Hindon-Allahabad-Kolkata; Hindon-Kannur; Ozar (Nasik)-Hindon and Tirupati-Hubli-Hindon, will also be started under the UDAN scheme from this airport, the report said.
