Amid the ongoing marriage season, at least 25 lakh marriages are expected to take place between 15th November and 15th December. How is that impacting the hotel business? Zee Business Senior Research Analyst Varun Dubey has this exclusive report.
Dubey said that this season the trend is interesting one and has also changed. Initially the people thronged foreign destinations for their weddings. Now, they are going to local places like Goa, Gulmarg, Jaipur and even Rishikesh. This is a departure from an earlier trend where people preferred foreign destination venues, he said.

That is helping the domestic industry significantly. The 25 lakh marriages that are scheduled between 15 November and 15 December are now creating demand for the local businesses.
A data from the hotel industry between 14 November and 13 December suggests that the wedding travel has seen a 100 per cent growth. The hotel occupancy across the country has jumped to 60 per cent during this period. At some places it has reached to 90 per cent even, Dubey said.
The revenues earned by hotels during the marriage season has gone up by almost 20-25 per centand the revenue per room has gone up by over 75 per cent, he added. This is a significant jump for the hotel sector.
There were suggestions that the bookings could get cancelled in light of the Omicron variant but that has not happened. The bookings around Christmas and New Year are still intact, he further said. December bookings have gone up by 400 per cent and this is during the wedding and even after it.
Many reports even suggest that the hotels have been booked till March.
