After announcing 14 new flights under government's UDAN scheme, SpiceJet in a tweet said that it will add more UDAN destinations in the coming weeks to its map. SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh said that taking air travel to the smaller towns and cities has been the airline's constant endeavour since it began operations 15 years back. However, the airline has not given any timeline for the launch of services on additional routes. "In the days and weeks ahead, @flyspicejet will continue to prioritise and add more #UDAN destinations taking air travel to the smaller towns and cities which has been our constant endeavour since we began operations 15 years back --- Ajay Singh, CMD, SpiceJet," SpiceJet tweeted.
SpiceJet is the first and the largest participant in the UDAN scheme, providing air connectivity to the remotest corners of India, Singh said in a statement. Jharsuguda in Odisha is SpiceJet's 10th UDAN destination. With the addition of 14 new UDAN flights, Spicejet now operates 33 daily flights under UDAN scheme, which is the highest number of flights being operated by any Indian airline under the regional connectivity scheme.
SpiceJet also launched other 14 direct flights connecting metros and non-metros on domestic routes. From March 31, SpiceJet has flight operations on Delhi-Jharsuguda-Delhi, Kolkata-Jharsuguda-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Jharsuguda-Hyderabad, Lakhimpur-Guwahati-Lakhimpur, Kishangarh-Ahmedabad-Kishangarh, Jaipur-Amritsar-Jaipur, and Bhopal-Udaipur-Bhopal.

The government had launched UDAN scheme in 2017 to make air travel accessible to the people who live remote parts of the country.
