Honda Cars India unveiled its new City e:HEV sedan for the Indian market on Thursday.

Honda Cars India unveiled its new City e:HEV sedan for the Indian market on Thursday. The e:HEV is the hybrid electric version of its popular car Honda City sedan. With the launch of this vehicle, the Japanese carmaker will enter the country's mainstream strong hybrid electric vehicle category.

The company has commenced the bookings of the model and plans to introduce it in the market next month.

The newly-appointed President & CEO of Honda Cars India Takuya Tsumura noted that introduction of the model marks the start of the company's journey towards introduction of new-age electrified models in the country, as per PTI said.

The design of the car is stylish and equipped with advanced technology. The car will be launched in early May.
"We are committing to electric vehicles and towards carbon neutrality by 2050 globally. That is the company's direction...In India we are starting with City e:HEV and of course based on Honda's direction we will see what is the best solution we can bring to the market here," he said.

The new Honda City e:HEV car is powered by the 1.5L ATKINSON CYCLE DOHC i-VTEC engine. In addition, the TWO Motor E-CVT motor system has been installed. A power control unit and intelligent power unit system are also present in the car. It can be driven in EV drive, hybrid drive, and engine drive modes.

"At the heart of the City e:HEV, we have a self charging highly efficient modern sports hybrid system, which offers a rare combination of accelerating driving experience as well as very low emission levels," Tsumura said. The fuel economy of the locally produced model is 40 percent to 45 percent higher than the petrol versions, he added.

The car has a Lane Keeping Assist system that alerts you when you are out of the lane. It is equipped with high auto beam lights which are helpful while driving at night. The car also gets Vehicle Stability Assist, Agile Handling Assist, Emergency Stop Signaling, Hill Start Assist, and Tire Pressure Alert System. The company has given a 5-star rating to the car in in-house crash testing and termed it a safe car.

Honda City e:HEV: Warranty

Honda Cars India has also announced to give warranty on this car. The customer will get an unlimited kilometer warranty of three years on this car. It is also offering an 8-year warranty on the lithium-ion battery. Apart from this, an extended warranty and roadside assistance will also be given.

"We are all well aware of the environmental challenges of global warming and emissions. As a socially responsible enterprise, Honda is striving to sell two thirds of its global sales through electrified models, like hybrid fuel cell vehicles and battery electric vehicles by 2030," Tsumura stated.
