Gill ticked all the right boxes when he scored a magnificent 91 of 146 balls in the second innings of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. Gill also slammed Mitchell Starc for 6, 4, 4, 4 as he neared a hundred before being dismissed in the second session by Nathan Lyon. In the process, Gill also made 256 runs in the series.

Meanwhile, behind this beautifully-crafted inning of Shubham Gill, there was also another factor in play. In fact, he has mentioned about it on earlier occasion too.

Shubham Gill was keeping a red handkerchief in his pocket during this special inning. Gill considers it his luck charm. Punjab cricketer has emerged as one of the brightest player during ICC U-19 World Cup 2018 as he had scored 341 runs in four innings at an average of 170.

Back then Gill has revealed the red handkerchief as his lucky charm. Gill had said, “I’ve had it from the beginning. I used to have a white one. But then in one game, a U-16 match, I changed it to red and scored runs, I scored a century. After that, I have had it for three-four years.”

Meanwhile, Punjab lad also broke a 50-year-old record held by Sunil Gavaskar. He became the youngest Indian opening batsman to score 50-plus runs in the fourth innings of a Test match. The previous record was held by Sunil Gavaskar for his unbeaten 67 against the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1970-71 on debut.
