As soon as we think of the most expensive places in the world, tourist spots like New York  or London strike the mind. But what if you are told  that they don’t even exist among the top 10 most expensive places to live in? Yes, and that is the truth! Recent research has revealed the world's most expensive cities to live in and to no one's surprise it is Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda where one needs  to have the deepest pockets to survive. What it means is that none of the US cities or British cities or Australian cities are there in the top 10!

The research positioned cities using  New York City as standard  and is released in Numbeo's mid-year Cost of Living Index.

According to this study, Hamilton has the highest  cost of living because of its expensive transport, food and utilities. Besides, it also has the costliest restaurants in the world. Hamilton has topped the list for the fourth time.

It is followed by cities in Switzerland. The next five places on the most expensive cost of living list are Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, Bern and Geneva .

While, Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland stands 7th in the list,  Lugano in Switzerland is placed in the 8th position.

Lugano is followed by Norwegian cities of Stavanger and Oslo. 

The first US city appears in the 12th position which is New York City. Other cities of United States that made it to top 20 are San Francisco (14th), Honolulu (15th), Anchorage (16th), Brooklyn (17th), Washington DC (18th) and Santa Rosa in California (19th).

London (34th position) and  Sydney (40th position) is the  highest ranked cities in UK and Australia.
