Hindi Diwas 2022: Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 every year. Special events are being organised in schools, colleges, offices and organisations to showcase and highlight the importance of the day and the language.

The Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as the official language on September 14, 1949, and since then, every year September 14 is celebrated as Hindi Diwas.

The Department of Official Language of the Ministry of Home Affairs discharges many important responsibilities with a view to increase the progressive use of Hindi in the official work of the Union and to ensure compliance with all statutory and legal provisions.

Every year Hindi Diwas is celebrated by the department in Delhi by organising special events. This year Hindi Diwas will be organised for the first time outside Delhi. The events will be organised in Gujarat's Surat. 

Interesting Facts About Hindi Language

-Hindi got its name from the Persian word Hind, which means “Land of Indus River”.

-Hindi is considered the third most-spoken first language in the world.

-Bihar became the first state to adopt Hindi as its official language, replacing Urdu.

-Apart from India, Hindi is widely spoken in countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and other countries.

-The provisions related to the Hindi language are regulated by the Central Hindi Directorate, Government of India.

-Article 351 of Part 17 of the Constitution of India gives clear instructions for the development of the Hindi language.
