The team had the likes of David Miller, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan. But hardly anyone in their wild dreams would have thought that the team would emerge triumphant on the final day in their maiden appearance.

Pandya and Co., however, played in the IPL likeseasoned pros,as they stunned the ace teams to grab the prestigious title.

Pandya (487 runs in 15 matches), Gill (483 runs in 16 matches) and Miller (481 runs in 16 matches) were the top fourth, fifth and sixth top run getters in IPL 2022.

Shami (20 wickets in 16 matches) and Afghanistan’s leg spinner Rashid Khan (19 wickets in 16 matches) bowled up to their reputation as Gujarat won 10 of their 14 group matches to top the points table.

Interestingly, they played Rajasthan Royals in the final, the team which had also outsmarted giant teams to win the inaugural IPL edition in 2008.

Pandya rose to the occasion in the IPL 2022 final as claimed three wickets for 17 and then blasted a 30-ball 34 and to see the team clinch title.
