Sharma needs to employ any means to win the second Test to stay relevant in the race for the top two spots in the World Test Championship table. India is in sixth place in the nine-team table with 14 points (38.89 PCT), while the Proteas are sitting comfortably at the top (100 PCT).

Currently, the Indian bowlers, especially Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur, haven't established themselves as proper Test bowlers, as was evident during the first Test at Centurion.

Krishna has very little first-class experience and looked raw for the red-ball format. While Shardul hasn't been the match-winning kind either with the ball or the bat.

However, the squad also has their hands on their heads as the top-order batters — Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer — weren't able to deal with the bouncer barrage of Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and debutant Nandre Burger. Only KL Rahul in the first innings and Virat Kohli in the second were able to cope with the lateral movements and extra bounce at Centurion.

India, however, will be glad to see the Ravindra Jadeja return to the side, who was dropped in the first Test due to back spasms.

Avesh Khan has been added to the squad as Mohammed Shami's replacement. It would be interesting to see if Avesh Khan or Mukesh Kumar would be called up to be part of the playing 11.

For the Proteas, their top-order batters of Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Keegan Petersen, and David Bedingham had been formidable. Along with their pace attack, the South African team has been a force to be reckoned with. However, they do have a slight hiccup, with Gerald Coetzee ruled out of the second test due to injury, but with Lungi Ngidi coming back to the squad, it would not make life easier for the Indian batters.

A win will be a tough task for the Men in Blues, as they have lost four of their last six matches played at the Newlands in Cape Town, and only time will tell if India can make a comeback in the two-match series.
