This year, the World Cup is being hosted in India, and the host nation is one of the favourites to win the coveted trophy. With their recent and fresh triumphs from the Asia Cup 2023 and the 2-1 ODI series win against Australia in the month of September, India will be going into the tournament with high spirits and higher hopes.

The Indian contingent has been in stellar form in recent games. Prominent players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer have overcome injuries and a lack of game time ahead of the tournament.

Until a few months back, the middle-order was struggling and the number 4 spot was undecided, but batsmen like Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have peaked at the right time and given the management a problem of plenty.

After both of their warm-up matches got washed out without a ball being bowled due to rain, India will be facing mighty Australia again for their first match of the World Cup on Sunday, October 8 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Australia, on the other hand, made a great comeback from their 2-1 defeat against India with some brilliant batting as well as bowling performances in their warmup matches of the ODI World Cup.

The five-time champions are also considered favourites in this tournament. With a side that saw the comeback of Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Steve Smith after a disastrous ODI series loss of 3-2 after leading 2-0 against South Africa in the early parts of September, the Australian side look like champions going into the mega cricketing tournament.

With the pace trio of Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood supported by Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa and their spinning prowess, it could be a Herculean task for the other teams to face this Aussie side on the pitches and conditions of the subcontinent.
