Despite the lack of skipper Rohit Shamra and Hardik Pandya, along with star batter Virat Kohli, India managed to chase down a target of 277 in 48.4 overs, winning the match by five wickets in Mohali.

Under the leadership of KL Rahul, India, winning the toss, chose to field first, and it started well with an early wicket taken by pacer Mohammed Shami.

Australia fought back with David Warner and Steve Smith at the crease as they kept the scorecard ticking. However, a brilliant but sensible 50 from Warner was the only highlight from the Australian side in the first innings, with some cameo performances from Steve Smith and Josh Inglis as they scored 41 and 45 runs, respectively.

For Team India, the star bowler in the first innings was Mohammed Shami, as he took five wickets, giving away just 51 runs in his 10 overs. India bowled out the Australian side in 50 overs with 276 runs on the board.

In the second innings, youngsters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill gave India a flying start. They scored 142 runs for the first wicket, with Ruturaj scoring 71 and Shubman scoring 69. Shubman, in the end, scored a total of 74 before getting out. Captain KL Rahul, along with Suryakumar Yadav, supported the middle order with an 80-run partnership.

Yadav scored 50 off 49 balls, getting his mojo back as he had been struggling to settle in the ODI format for the last few games. In the last three ODI matches played against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav got out for a golden duck, and this fifty is expected to boost his confidence as he has been named in the Indian contingent that will be playing in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 here in India.

On the other hand, KL Rahul played a captain's knock as he scored 58 off 63 balls and finished the match in style with a massive six. Since his return to the side after injury, Rahul has been in sublime form.

This is Australia's fourth consecutive ODI loss after losing three ODIs on the trot against South Africa. It will be interesting to see how the Aussies make their comeback for the second ODI, and for Team India, it is expected that they will stick to the same game plan.
