India is set to host the SAFF Championship this year, as they go into the tournament as the defending champions after winning it back in 2021. India defeated Nepal 3-0 in the final in 2021 to get their hands on their eighth SAFF title, in the Maldives. There was a lot of uncertainty about whether the match between India and Pakistan would take place on the first day of the tournament. The unpredictability of the situation was due to the delay in the processing of visas for Pakistan. 

On Monday, June 19, the Indian High Commission cleared all the pending applications, making way for the smooth travel of the Pakistan squad. Pakistan is travelling to India from a four-nation tournament in Mauritius, in which Djibouti clinched the title.

India and Pakistan going against each other is always a treat to watch, in any context. And as both of them face each other on the opening day of the SAFF Championship on June 21 at 7:30 PM (IST), all the football fans, not just in the sub-continent but around the world, will be anticipating a glorious matchup.

The opening match for the SAFF Championship 2023 is between Nepal and Kuwait in Group A, which is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM on the same day.
