Captain Jos Buttler, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Liam Livingstone haven't delivered as expected.

Moreover, England suffered the biggest blow in their bowling department when their highest wicket taken in the World Cup 2023 campaign—pacer Reece Topley—was ruled out of the tournament due to a fracture in his index finger. The 28-year-old Brydon Carse has been named his replacement.

Sri Lanka Squad: Strengths and Weaknesses

Sri Lanka is drowning in its own mess at the moment. Sri Lanka has been struggling a lot with its bowling. And adding to their woes, skipper Dasun Shanaka and young pacer Matheesha Pathirana have been ruled out of the squad due to injuries, making the team more vulnerable. Chamika Karunaratne and veteran Angelo Mathews have been named the replacements.

The only silver lining about the Lankan side is their batting. Top-order batsmen Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis both already have a century to their names, and Pathum Nissanka, along with Charith Asalanka, have provided good support whenever needed.
