The last time both these teams met in ODIs was in early September of this year for a four-match ODI series. England won the series 3-1, in which they devastated the New Zealand batting and bowlers, by bowling them out in the last three matches while setting an average score of 337 when they batted.

England is considered one of the favourites to win the trophy, and a lot of fans anticipate Team India and England playing in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup Final.

A golden generation of English cricketers, this England side's 'Baz-Ball' approach to Test matches has permeated into the white-ball format as well. Although England is an ageing side, but they have rich experience.

Leading the line for England will be Jos Butler, who has been a phenomenal hitter of the ball in the middle order. With conventional batters like Joe Root and Dawid Malan and hard-hitters like Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook, along with all-rounders Liam Livingstone, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Sam Curran, England has the longest batting lineup in the competition. Regarding the bowling, pacer duo Mark Wood and Reece Topley, accompanied by spinner Adil Rashid, will be entrusted with getting the wickets for the English side.

On the other hand, New Zealand is having its own set of troubles. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the first match owing to an injury. Tom Latham will be leading the Black Caps in the first match of the World Cup 2023. What makes matters worse for the Kiwis is the fact that Tim Southee is still recovering from the thumb injury he sustained during the ODI series with England. New Zealand will certainly miss the fast bowler, who has always been devastating with his swing bowling.

However, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell at the top, along with hard hitters like Glenn Phillips and Jimmy Neesham, are expected to provide great batting depth for the Kiwis even in the absence of Williamson.

Despite Southee not playing, experienced campaigners Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson, along with youngster Matt Henry, are expected to do the heavy lifting with the ball for New Zealand. Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi can also turn things around on the Indian pitches.
