Virat Kohli, who was sporting a 'Dad' t-shirt upon his arrival to the RCB camp will also be hoping that his newborn son Akaay will be the lucky charm for him. On a serious note though, there's hardly been a squad of such expensively-assembled superstars that has faltered at the final hurdle.

Until last year football fans would've drawn parallels with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City that knocked at the doors of UEFA Champions League glory, but were always denied by lady luck. Both Guardiola and Kohli's obsession with fitness, attention to detail and 'process-driven' approach to winning is identical and their admiration and adulation for each other (during virtual meetups) is well-known. Like Guardiola's broken the hoodoo, Kohli will want to the same and then replicate the winning strategy till winning becomes boring.

Now, back to cricket, and cricket journalists' favourite whipping horse — RCB. In skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell, they have a loaded top order. Old warhorse Dinesh Karthik will don the gloves, and hold fort in the middle order.

In Cameron Green, Alzarri Joseph, Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, Reece Topley, they have plenty of overseas fast bowlers (or fast-bowling all-rounders) to partner Mohd Siraj with the new ball, but therein lies the problem — if skipper Faf and big-hitter Maxwell occupy 2 of the 4 overseas spots, who occupies the other 2 spots? Will RCB prefer pace of Ferguson and Joseph, or opt for their big-ticket acquisition Green?

And the list surprisingly ends there. Karn Sharma is the only genuine spinner in the squad. Even if Maxwell bowls his quota of off-spin, the bowling attack looks really underwhelming.

But, like they say, every scarcity is an opportunity, for unknown players like Swapnil Singh, Saurav Chauhan, Suyash Prabhudessai, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Rajan Kumar, and the rest to make a name for themselves.

RCB will kick off their campaign in the season opener clash against Chennai Super Kings on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
