Nagaland Assembly Election Result 2023 News: Polling across 59 of 60 Assembly seats in in Nagaland took place in a single phase on February 27. Chief Electoral Officer V Shashank Shekhar told PTI that the elections were peacefully and over 83 per cent of the more than 13 lakh electorate exercised their franchise. The lone seat where polling didn't take place was Akuluto in Zunheboto district because the sitting MLA -- BJP's Kazheto Kinimi, was declared winner uncontested.

Nagaland Assembly Election Result 2023 News: Vote Counting Date

Counting votes will take place on March 2. The counting process will begin at 8 am and the result will be declared the same day.

Nagaland Assembly Election Result 2023 News: Candidates

The National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine is seeking a mandate for the second term on a 40:20 seat-sharing basis, with Neiphiu Rio as the chief ministerial candidate of the alliance.

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) fielded candidates in 22 seats, but one of them withdrew, leaving 21 in the fray. 

Ahead of the polling, the Congress has said it would not align with the BJP to form the next government, but it could join any like-minded secular front.

The National People's Party (NPP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had fielded 12 candidates each.

Newbie in Nagaland politics, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) had put up as many as 16 candidates, while the Republican Party of India (Athawale) has fielded eight aspirants.

A total of 19 nominees contested as Independents for Nagaland Assembly elections.
