Meghalaya Assembly Election Result 2023 News: Assembly Elections in Meghalaya were conducted on February 27. According to Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor, 85.25 per cent of the state's 21.6 lakh voters exercised their franchise during the assembly election. As many as 12 constituencies recorded over 90 per cent voting.

The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested for 59 seats each, while the National People’s Party (NPP) fielded 56 candidates. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) contest from 57 and 46 seats, respectively.

The voting counting will be held on March 2 at 13 centres across Meghalaya.

Though Meghalaya has a 60-member assembly, polling in the Sohiong constituency was adjourned following the death of one of the candidates.

The ruling NPP is vying to retain power in the northeastern state, while the BJP, Trinamool Congress and other regional parties are hoping to bring about a change in the government.

Meghalaya Exit Poll

According to the Zee News-Matrize exit poll, the National People's Party will emerge as the single largest party with 21 to 26 seats. The TMC is predicted to win 8 to 13 seats while the BJP is likely to secure 6 to 11 seats.
