Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: Gokak is one of the 224 constituencies of Karnataka that will go to poll on May 10. This seat falls under the Belagavi district and Lok Sabha constituency. It is one of the 15 assembly constituencies where bypolls were held in 2019.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ramesh Laxmanrao Jarkiholi is the sitting MLA from Gokak. He has been winning the seat since 1999 and seeking his seventh consecutive term on the seat.

Jarkiholi is pitted against Congress candidate Mahantesh Kadadi and JD(S) candidate Chandan Kumar.

Big BJP leaders like PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath, Rajnath Singh, and others are campaigning for the party in Karnataka. While Congress is banking on the mega-election campaign by leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and others.

Karnataka Election 2023: Background

On May 24, 2023, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly's tenure will come to an end this month. The last Assembly elections were held in May 2018. Following the election, the single-largest party BJP established the state government under BS Yediyurappa, but it barely lasted a week as it couldn't withstand the floor test in Assembly.

This was followed by the coalition of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Indian National Congress, with H. D. Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister, which lasted 14 months before Yediyurappa and BJP returned to power in the state.

Karnataka Election 2023: Schedule

Single-phase Karnataka Assembly Election has been scheduled on May 10, 2023 (Wednesday).
The vote counting will be done on May 13, 2023 (Saturday).
In an Assembly of 224 seats, the majority mark is 113.
