General Elections 2024, Lok Sabha Polls: Congress party scion Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha seat on Wednesday. Rahul, the incumbent Member of Parliament (M.P.) from Wayanad, was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior Congress leaders like AICC general secretary K C Venugopal.

Rahul Gandhi submitted his nomination papers to Wayanad District Collector and Returning Officer on Wednesday afternoon, after this he took the oath to uphold the Constitution which concluded the submission process. 

The senior Congress leader had arrived in Wayanad by helicopter in the morning and then held a roadshow from Kalpetta to Civil Station.

After that, at the end of the roadshow, he addressed a gathering and said that the people of Wayanad will always have his backing on all issues, including the human-animal conflicts which have claimed many lives in the high range district of the state. 

He also said that he was always ready to bring the issues being faced by the people of the hill constituency to the attention of the nation and the world. 

After filing his nomination papers from Wayanad, Rahul wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): "Wayanad is my home, and the people of Wayanad are my family. From them, I have learned a great deal over the last five years and received an abundance of love and affection. It is with great pride and humility that I file my nomination for Lok Sabha 2024 once again from this beautiful land."

"This election is a fight for the soul of India; it is a fight to preserve our democracy from the forces of hatred, corruption, and injustice that seek to suppress the voice of Bharat Mata. I, along with every member of INDIA, will not rest until this battle is won. We will bring together every citizen from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and from Manipur to Mumbai to strengthen our Union of States. Judega Bharat. Jeetega INDIA," he added.

 

General Elections 2024: Wayanad Lok Sabha seat key contests

Rahul Gandhi will be up against BJP state president K Surendran and CPI leader Annie Raja from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. 

In 2019 Lok Sabah Polls, he had emerged victorious by a massive margin of over four lakh votes. 

In the 2019 polls, he had bagged 7,06,367 votes out of a total of 10,92,197 with his closest rival — CPI's P P Suneer — receiving only 2,74,597 votes. 

General Elections 2024: Kerala voting date

Voting in Wayanad and the entire state of Kerala for the Lok Sabha polls will be conducted on April 26.
