Nagaland Election Results 2023 Highlights: The BJP-NDPP alliance in Nagaland has comfortably crossed the halfway mark of 30 in the 60-member Legislative Assembly.

Nagaland Election Results 2023 Highlights: The NDPP-BJP alliance retains power in Nagaland. PM Narendra Modi thanked people for giving the alliance another mandate to serve the state. The NDPP-BJP alliance fought the election on a 40:20 seat-sharing arrangement. The National People's Party has 4 seats while the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and NCP have won two seats each. Elections were held for 59 of 60 seats on February 27.

The ECI declared BJP's Kazheto Kinimi as a winner from Akuluto seat as the rival contestant withdrew his nomination. Outgoing Chief Minister and NDPP chief Neiphiu Rio has retained his Northern Angami-II seat, defeating Congress party rival Seyievilie Sachu. History was scripted in Nagaland when the state elected its first women legislators in its 60 years of statehood.

The two women lawmakers--Hekhani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse of the ruling NDPP defeated the sitting MLAs in Western Angami and Dimapur-III seats respectively. Jakhalu became the first woman MLA in the Nagaland Assembly.

    Nagaland created history on Thursday, March 2 by electing the first-ever woman MLA. Hekani Jakhalu, a lawyer-activist, won polls from the Dimapur-III seat on the NDPP ticket. NDPP is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

    Jakhalu won from Dimapur-III seat by 1,536 votes, becoming the first woman to be elected to Nagaland Assembly. She defeated her nearest rival Azheto Zhimomi of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), the Election Commission of India said.
