Baisakhi 2024: Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is an ancient festival of the Sikh community. This day is celebrated as the formation of Khalsa (the pure one). People, especially Punjabis, celebrate this holy festival with a whole lot of props and grandeur regardless of their religion. For the people of Punjab, especially the Sikhs, Vaisakhi is a very significant day. It is also celebrated as Sikh New Year based on the Hindu Solar calendar.

On this holy day, people gather with their family and friends and prepare special dishes like peeled rice, wheat flour laddu, badam kheer and more and celebrate the beginning of the harvest season. People also visit Gurudwaras to offer prayers. Sikhs organize langar at various places to feed food to all the people. Traditionally, Kada Prasad (wheat pudding) is served to mark the day which symbolizes the sweet beginning.

Baisakhi 2024: History and significance  

Baisakhi marks the founding of the Khalsa Panth (which means the pure one) by the tenth Sikh guru - Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. He eliminated the difference between higher and lower caste communities and declared that all human beings are equal. Hence, the day has a lot of importance for the Sikh community.
