'Varisu' Storyline

In the family-drama and action-thriller, Vijay plays a young guy who returns to help his family through a challenging period while a competing firm is attempting to damage them. The movie is the first Tamil-language production by Telugu filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally. Rashmika Mandanna and Prakash Raj also star in prominent roles.

'Varisu' Box Office collection

'Varisu' recorded advance booking of Rs 11 crore on the first day.

As per trade tracker Sacnilk, the film has collected around Rs 28.50 crore gross nationally, beating the Rs 26-crore collection of Thala Ajith and Manju Warrier-starrer action 'Thunivu'. Except for Tamil Nadu, Varisu has beaten Thunivu’s box office collection in every territory.

In the Northern parts of the country, 'Varisu' has recorded Rs 1 crore on its opening day against Rs 50 lakhs bagged by 'Thunivu'. The films' combined gross national collection for January 12 is expected to cross Rs 50 crore — which is a huge number for the industry.

According to trade experts, in the five-day Pongal weekend, the film should perform well and end up earning somewhere between Rs 75 crore to Rs 80-crore in the period.

Better reviews from critics could have increased the numbers, but star power and appeal of Vijay's on-screen persona may be enough to help the movie become a box office success. The film is anticipated to benefit a little from the Friday release of the Hindi and Telugu dubbed versions.
