Top Gun (1986)

Top Gun, directed by Tony Scott, delved into the story of a fighter pilot. Tom Cruise’s Maverick has stayed in our hearts rent-free. Mission: Impossible (1996)

This was a movie like no other. The espionage thriller, directed by Brian De Palma, had unexpected twists and turns. Mission: Impossible became the third-highest grosser of the year, earning $457 million globally. Other than Cruise, Jon Voight was stellar in portraying a gray character. Mission Impossible sparked a film series that continues even today with the Dead Reckoning Part 1 releasing in India on July 12. The overall collection of the Mission Impossible series is close to $3 billion.

Jerry Maguire (1996)

Tom Cruise is primarily an action star but then came Jerry Maguire. Cruise walked into our hearts playing a sports agent. The dialogues are popular even today, be it Cuba Gooding Jr’s “Show me the money” or Renee Zellweger’s “You has me at hello”. For Jerry Maguire, Cruise got nominated in the Academy Awards for the Best Actor criteria. The film grossed a total of $273 million worldwide. 

War of the Worlds (2005)

This sci-fi movie based on the HG Wells novel was helmed by Steven Spielberg. Tom Cruise played the role of Ray Ferrier. The film failed to impress critics but it still managed to earn over $600 million globally.

The Last Samurai (2003)

This is a movie where Cruise played a carry with deep layers. The Last Samurai portrayed an American captain who turned into a fierce samurai in 1876 in Japan. The film received grossed $450 million globally. Cruise got a Golden Globe nomination for his outstanding performance.
