Smriti Irani Birthday: Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister for Women and Child Development Minority Affairs and former actress turns 47 today. She is a Minister in the Union Cabinet of India since May 2014. Irani started her career as a model and actress, before entering into politics. She was part of a very popular show named ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ from 2000 to 2008. Even today, she is mostly known by her show name ‘Tulsi'. Smriti Irani was born into a Marathi-Punjabi-Bengali family based in Delhi. Married to a Parsi businessman Zubin Irani, she joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in her teenage years and can speak multiple Indian languages.

In one of her interviews, Irani mentioned, “I have been part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since my childhood days. My grandfather himself was a Swayamsevak and my mother was a Jan Sanghi. Before debuting as ‘Tulsi’ in ‘Kyunki…’, I have been the real ‘Tulsi’ of Sangh Parivar and Jan Sangh,”. 

Smriti Irani's political career 

Irani joined the BJP in 2003. Later she became a member of the National Executive and served as vice president of the Maharashtra Youth Wing just a year later. Irani also works as president of the BJP's Mahila Morcha (Women's Wing). Then in 2011, she was appointed as a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat. 

In 2016, Smriti served as Minister of Textiles. She also held the portfolio of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India). She is India’s youngest Union Cabinet Minister in the Government and the first woman to hold office as Minister for Education and Minister of Textiles. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, she once again contested from Amethi and aggressively campaigned against Rahul Gandhi in his constituency. Last year, Irani was also given charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
