Paush Purnima 2023: The full moon day of Paush month is observed as 'Paush Purnima'. It is an important day in the Hindu calendar, as it signifies the beginning of a one-month period of austerity that is observed during the Magha month. According to the lunar calendar used in North India, the Magha month begins the day after Paush Purnima.

Satyanarayana Katha is recited on the occasion of Paush Purnima. 

For Satyanarayana Puja, panchamrit is prepared by combining milk, honey, banana, Gangajal, Tulsi leaf, and dry fruits.  Additionally, Churma Prasad is made on this day. Following the recitation of the Satyanarayana Katha on this full moon day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped. The puja includes the use of- banana leaves, fruits, Panchamrit, betel nut, paan, sesame, moli, roli, kumkum, and durva. After the puja, 'charanamrit' and prasad are distributed.

Paush Purnima 2023: Significance

On the day of Paush Purnima, taking a holy dip at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat or at Prayag's Triveni Sangam is believed to extremely fortunate and significant. On the auspicious day of Paush Purnima, it is believed that taking a holy dip in rivers frees the soul from the never-ending cycle of birth and death. During Paush Purnima, Shakambhari Jayanti is also observed. This is the day when the Pushyabhishek Yatra is conducted by ISKCON and Vaishnava Sampradaya adherents. On this day, tribes in rural Chhattisgarh celebrate the Charta festival.
