Lata Mangeshkar Death Anniversary: Today, February 6 marks the first death anniversary of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, also known as Lata di. She passed away on February 6 last year at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital at 92. Born on September 28, 1929, she was one of the biggest music icons in the country. Her contribution to the Indian music industry gained her titles such as the "Queen of Melody", "Voice of the Millennium" and "Nightingale of India".

Lata Mangeshkar Songs

Mangeshkar started training in singing at the age of five. She began her career as a singer in 1942. She has been credited to have sung 25,000 songs in as many as 36 Indian languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali and others over a period of seven decades.

A few of Mangeshkar's unforgettable songs include 'Lag Jaa Gale', 'Mohe Panghat Pe','Hothon mein aisi baat','Chalte Chalte', 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' , 'Pani Pani Re', 'Ajeeb Daastaan Hai', 'Pyar kiya to darna kya', 'Neela aasman so gaya', among countless others.

Considered to be one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema, Mangeshkar received several film awards and honors like Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and various National Film Awards.

She was also the recipient of India's highest civilian honour--Bharat Ratna in 2001.
