India is celebrating the 10-day-long Ganesh Mahotsav — which begins on Ganesh Chaturthi and ends on Anant Chaturdashi. As per the Hindu calendar, Ganesh Chaturthi is observed on the Chaturthi tithi in the shukla paksha in the Bhadrapada month every year. This year, Ganesh Utsav begins on September 19 and will continue till September 28, 2023. The festival marks the birth of Lord Ganesha. On September 28, devotees will perform Ganesh Visarjan.

Ganesh Visarjan can also be done on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi after Ganesha Puja.

Puja vidhi of Hindu deities include either Visarjan or Utthapana at the end of the Puja. On the day of Ganesh Visarjan, devotees offer coconuts, flowers and sweets, and the statues of Lord Ganesha are taken to water bodies through the street procession with much fanfare. Devotees join the procession and fill the whole atmosphere with chanting of Lord Ganesha. "Ganapati Bappa Morya" and "Ganesh Maharaj Ki, Jai" are chanted throughout the procession.
