Chitragupta Puja 2022: It is believed that Lord Chitragupta is the one who keeps a record of the karma of all human beings and decides who will go to heaven and hell by scrutinising their deeds. According to Hindu mythology, he is a close associate of Lord Yama - the god of death. It is believed that Chitragupta was created from the soul and mind of Lord Brahma. Chitragupta is worshiped on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. The day is also known as Yama Dwitiya. It is to be noted that usually Bhai Dooj is also celebrated on the same day. 

Chitragupta Puja 2022 

On this day, people worship pens, pencils and notebooks. This puja is widely celebrated in the Kayastha community and is commonly referred to as 'Kalam Davat Puja.' He is believed to be the first who used letters. 

Chitragupta Puja 2022 Date and Time

Shukla Paksha Dwitiya will begin on October 26. The exact time will from 2:42 PM. The Puja Tithi and Muhurat are from 1:18 PM to 3:33 PM. The Dwitiya Tithi will end on October 27 at 12:45 PM.

Chitragupta Puja Vidhi

On this, deities will clean the idol with water and rosewater. Following this, an earthen lamp is lit in front of it. People offer panchamitra - made of curd, sugar and dry fruits - to Lord Chitragupta. People also make a 'Swastik' symbol in front of the god. It is then covered with rice and 'kalash' filled with fresh water is kept on it. Deities also recite passages from the Chitragupts holy text on this day.

Chitragupta had twelve sons - Bhanoo, Vibhanu, Vishwabhanu, Virjawan, Oharu, Sucharu, Chitra, Matiman, Himavan, Chitracharu, Arun and Atindriya.
