Chandra Grahan 2024: What is lunar eclipse?

To understand what lunar eclipse is, we need to understand the basic principals of astronomy.

During the revolution of Moon, when Sun, Earth and Moon come in a straight line, that is, Moon comes behind Earth in its shadow.

Then sunlight does not reach Moon, due to which, this part of Moon becomes dark and it is not visible from Earth.

This phenomenon is called lunar eclipse.

During this time, a part of Moon is completely or partially covered by Earth's shadow.

But, the eclipse is not visible at the same time in all parts of Earth and appears in different parts every time.

The area from where this astronomical phenomenon is visible is considered an eclipse.
