Swaraj serial: To celebrate the 75 years of Independence, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry recently announced that public broadcaster Doordarshan is telecasting a 75-episode mega serial ‘Swaraj – Bharat ke Swatantrata Sangram ki Samagra Gatha’ from August 14 in Hindi on the DD National channel.

According to the ministry, the 75-episode serial will telecast at 9 PM every Sunday. The serial will highlight the contribution of the freedom fighters and unsung heroes of the freedom struggle. The serial is also being dubbed in nine regional languages and in English. The regional version of the serial will telecast from 20th of this month on regional channels of Doordarshan. This serial will also be broadcast on All India Radio from 20th of this month at 11 AM every Saturday.

The series begins with the landing of Vasco-da-Gama in 1498 in India. The serial will also tell the stories and contributions of heroes including Rani Abbakka, Bakshi Jagabandhu, Tirot Sing, Sidhu Murmu and Kanhu Murmu, Shivappa Nayaka, Kanhoji Angre, Rani Gaidinliu, Tilka Majhi, Rani Lakshmibai, Maharaj Shivaji, Tatya Tope, Madam Bhikaji Kama, and more. 

The series is aimed at reimagining the vision behind the idea of swaraj and tells the stories of the leaders that molded that idea into a reality. Union I&B Minister, Anurag Thakur has also said that the serial is a manifestation of our pride in these heroes from the past.
