"Raksha Bandhan shows no upturn on Day 3... Remains in the same range as Day 2, despite the weekend factor... 3-day total is definitely distressing... Needs to gather speed on the two big days [Sun-Mon]... Thu 8.20 cr, Fri 6.40 cr, Sat 6.51 cr. Total: ₹ 21.11 cr. #India biz," tweeted movie critic Taran Adarsh.

Earlier, Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha that released on a holiday-weekend on the same day as 'Raksha Bandhan' turned out to be a big disappointment and failed to cheer the box office.

As far as collection of Laal Singh Chaddha in the last two days are concerned, Forest Gup adaptation made 18.96 crore, while Akshay Kumar's 'Raksha Bandhan' earned Rs 14.60 crore on Thursday and Friday.

Mumbai-based exhibitor Akshay Rathi, who runs theatres in Chhattisgarh, told PTI that Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, said these are "turbulent times for box office".

We all think that films of superstars like Aamir and Akshay should do better but these are turbulent times for box office. There is not enough equilibrium in the consumption patterns of audience, it is haphazard.

"These guys have the potential to open with big numbers but we haven't seen such strange figures come out for them in a long time. They are dismally low, Rathi told PTI.
