The movie has created a huge buzz ahead of its release, with people booking well over 62,000 tickets for the coming weekend. The Tom Cruise film has already earned Rs 2.76 crore in the Indian box office from advance bookings. Over 62,588 tickets for the weekend have already been sold across just PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis theatres, reported Box Office World. Reports claimed the advance bookings to be over 68,000 for the opening day alone and a staggering total of over 1.5 lakh tickets across the five-day opening weekend.

Mission Impossible set for $1 billion run?

With positive early reviews, good responses to trailers, the general excitement about the movie, there is significant hype behind the ‘Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One’ across social media. Add to the fact that Cruise’s last entry, ‘Maverick’ had earned a cool $1.49 billion worldwide and the last Mission Impossible entry, ‘Fallout’ had earned $791.1 million worldwide, expectations for his latest silver screen showing are high.

The year 2023 has been a mostly disappointing year for international movies. The highest-grossing movie of the year, and the only one to cross the $1 billion mark, was ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’. Several films from big franchises like ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, ‘The Flash’ have essentially bombed. While ‘Fast X’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ were solid hits, they failed to cross over the $1 billion mark.

Tom Cruise vs Mario

Mission Impossible 7’s biggest opponent so far on the charts is ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’. The movie managed to rake in over $770 million at the international box office, which MI 7 will hope to beat with Cruise’s international appeal as a Hollywood superstar. ‘Dead Reckoning’ has the potential to become the biggest movie of 2023, but will face stiff competition from Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, which will be fighting it out on July 21.
