About the movie Lioness

Lioness narrates the tales of two British-Punjabi women from different eras. The first narrative, set in the early 1900s, intricately weaves the historical journey of Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, the youngest granddaughter of Maharajah Ranjit Singh and the god-daughter of Queen Victoria, with that of Simranjeet Kaur, a fictional character symbolising the experiences of an educated, married immigrant woman in 1990s Southall.

"Lioness breaks stereotypes in women’s empowerment, sheddinglight on the historical impact of Indian women. Dispelling the notion of feminism as a Western concept, our film sparks conversations on the struggles that shaped today’s rights," said Director Kajri Babbar.
