Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ which opened to a record collection at the box office on its first day, on September 7, has now heading to breach the Rs 300 crore mark on its day 5 leaving behind ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Pathaan’.

Sunny Deol starrer 'Gadar 2' recently etched its name into cinematic history by surpassing the earnings of the epic blockbuster 'Baahubali 2,' thereby becoming the second-highest grosser Bollywood movie of all time. With a staggering Rs 511 crore in just a month since its release, 'Gadar 2' has surpassed the lifetime collection of SS Rajamouli’s epic 'Baahubali 2 (Hindi)', which had earned Rs 510.99 crore. Over the weekend, Sunny Deol’s action drama extended the lead to Rs 515.03 crore. .

In addition to this monumental feat, 'Gadar 2' has set several other records since its release. It holds the distinction of being the fastest Hindi film to reach the Rs 450 crore mark, boasts the highest second-weekend numbers, and achieved the highest business on Independence Day. The film's massive opening, collecting Rs 40.1 crore on its first day, further solidified its status as the second-highest opener of the year.

'Jawan' surpasses 'Gadar 2'

The glorious run of 'Gadar 2' took a hit with the release of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' on Thursday, September 7. On its 28th day at the box office, 'Gadar 2' earned only Rs 1.08 crore, marking its lowest single-day collection since its release on August 11. 'Jawan' made a significant impact by attracting audiences, challenging 'Gadar 2' at the box office.

At the same time 'Gadar 2' still has some ground to cover to match the incredible performance of Shah Rukh Khan’s previous release 'Pathaan’.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk.com data, ‘Jawan’ grossed Rs 287 crore on its 4th day of release and set to breach the Rs 300 crore mark on fifth day. On the other hand ‘Gadar 2’ entered the Rs 300 crore club on day 8 while ‘Prathaan’ achieved this feat on day 7.

The spy drama has set a formidable record with a lifetime domestic collection of Rs 654.28 crore. 'Pathaan' enjoyed an extended and highly successful run at the box office.

As of April 6, 2023, 'Pathaan' had grossed Rs 654.28 crore in India and Rs 396.02 crore overseas, resulting in a worldwide gross collection of Rs 1,050.3 crore. This staggering achievement firmly places 'Pathaan' as Bollywood's highest-grossing film. Nearly 38 per cent of the gross collection for ‘Pathaan’ came from overseas collections while ‘Gadar 2’ overseas collection have contributed less than 10 per cent to its overall bookings.

'Jawan' continues to perform impressively with domestic collections of Rs 286.56 crore and overseas earnings of Rs 137.19 crore, as the battle for box office supremacy among these three cinematic giants rages on. ‘Jawan’ also counts 32 per cent of its gross collections from overseas collections. 'Gadar 2' may have taken the second spot, but the ultimate winner in this cinematic showdown is yet to be determined.
