Avatar re-release: The epic sci-fi film "Avatar" is re-releasing worldwide on Friday, September 23. James Cameron's movie is coming back to theatres in remastered 4K High Dynamic Range format, Disney and 20th Century have announced. This gives an opportunity to 'Avatar' lovers to watch their favourite celestial saga unfold once again on the large screen.

The movie, starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, was released in the year 2009 and became a massive hit.

Cameron's "Avatar" became the top-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office with more than USD 2.8 billion in revenues. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards including best picture and best director, and won three Oscars, for best cinematography, production design and visual effects.

In 2010, a special extended theatrical re-release of "Avatar" exclusively in 3D theatres and IMAX 3D fetched USD 44 million worldwide. Early last year, the re-release of the movie in China raised USD 57.7 million.

It is worth noting that the sequel of this movie named "Avatar: The Way of Water" is all set for its worldwide release. The film will hit the theater on December 16. The official handle of Avatar tweeted, "“Wherever we go, this family is our fortress. Watch the brand-new teaser trailer for #Avatar: The Way of Water. Experience it only in theaters December 16, 2022."
