The Indian smartphone industry is growing at a rapid pace and for the first time, the country has surpassed the United States to emerge as the second largest annual market in the world, only behind China. According to a latest report by Counterpoint Research, the country saw a total of 158 million shipments. Xiaomi

The Chinese smartphone maker continues to hold the top spot with 28 per cent marketshare. The company grew 5 per cent year-on-year. India is now the biggest market for Xiaomi, surpassing its home market, China, in 2019.

Samsung

Despite a slip in the fourth quarter of 2019, Samsung manages to retain second spot with 21 per cent marketshare. The company lost 5 per cent marketshare last year. However, it remains to lead charts in terms of revenue.

Vivo

Vivo surpassed Samsung to emerge as the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in India in the fourth quarter of 2019 but finds itself in the third spot overall. It has 16 per cent market share in the Indian market.

Realme

The fastest growing smartphone brand of 2019, Realme saw its market share increase from 3 per cent in 2018 to 10 per cent in 2019. The company went on a smartphone launching spree in the last 12 months and aims to continue the momentum in 2020 as well.

Oppo

Oppo is the third company from China's BBK group to find itself in the top 5 list. Currently, it holds 9 per cent marketshare in the Indian market and witnessed a growth of 28 per cent in 2019.
