Just six months after launching Redmi Y1, Xiaomi India today unveiled Redmi Y2 as a successor to the earlier smartphone, which was the best-selling selfie smartphone in the last two quarters, beating phones like Oppo F7 and Honor 9i. The Redmi Y2 boasting of a 16MP front-facing camera is touted to be the best selfie camera smartphone, which will compete against Vivo V9 and Oppo F7, said a TelecomTalk report, adding that the new Xiaomi phone, which comes with dual rear cameras of 12MP and a 5MP secondary camera, is the same Redmi S2 smartphone that was launched in China last month.
 
Launching the smartphone in three colour options of Rose Gold, Champagne Gold and Platinum Silver, Redmi Y2 will be exclusively available on Amazon at a starting price of Rs 9,999. The 4GB RAM variant of Xiaomi Redmi Y2 will cost Rs 12,999, while 3GB RAM variant is expected to come with a price tag of Rs 9,999, reported TelecomTalk, adding that first sale of the new device is expected from June 12. 
 
Notably, Airtel is reportedly offering Rs 1,800 instant cashback along with 240GB of free data on the new smartphone.
 
Redmi Y2's features include a 16MP selfie camera with 2.0µm, HDR and LED flash, and the new device is stated to be an AI-Selfie superstar for coming with modes like low-light selfie, auto HDR, AI-Beautify and AI Portrait Selfie. On its back, Xiaomi has added dual rear cameras- a 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25m PDAF is paired with a 5MP depth sensor, said TelecomTalk report. The rear camera is stated to come with Electronic Image Stabilisation and LED flash support.
 
On the rear side of the phone is the fingerprint scanner and the report said it also has Face Unlock feature working on Artificial Intelligence. Redmi Y2 offers 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB port.
 
With 8.1mm thickness and 170grams weight, the new smartphone flaunts a 5.99-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio, besides having a 269PPI screen. Under the hood, Xiaomi Redmi Y2 has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC and comes in 3GB/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB options.

Due to 14nm processor, the new phone will reportedly have a better battery life in comparison to Redmi Y1.
