Xiaomi Redmi 4,  that went on sale on Tuesday saw an immense response on e-commerce website – Amazon, on which it was exclusively available.

“Xiaomi’s latest Redmi 4 exclusively available on Amazon.in which went on sale earlier today witnessed record sales. Following the 12:00 pm launch, Amazon.in and Mi.com sold more than 250,000 units within 8 minutes of launch,” Amazon said.

Amazon.in claimed it garnered 10 million hits per minute on the site.

“We are thrilled to have witnessed such a remarkable customer response for the Redmi 4. We had witnessed over 2.3 million ‘notify me’ requests from our customers. Smartphones have been a top selling category on Amazon.in and the phenomenal sale today highlights our focus on expanding the selection and giving our customers the best to choose from,” Noor Patel, Director Category Management, Amazon India said.

Xiaomi Redmi 4, a successor to the Redmi 3s has been launched in two variants -  the 2GB RAM with 16 GB storage variant priced at Rs 6,999 and the 3GB RAM along with 32 GB storage variant priced at Rs 8,999.

A third variant of the Redmi 4 has been priced at Rs 10,999.

While all three variants are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435 SoC, the difference is in the RAM and internal storage.

“We are delighted to have repeated history by selling more than 250,000 units of Redmi 4 under 8 minutes along with Amazon.in,” Raghu Reddy, Online Sales Head, Xiaomi India said. 

The new Redmi 4 comes with a fingerprint sensor placed at the back.

Reddy further added, “The love from our Mi Fans has been tremendous and it has allowed us to do a hat-trick of selling 250,000 units each in the first sales of all our smartphones this year.”
