Instant messaging application, Whatsapp Messenger has started allowing its users to share file types that were unsupported earlier.

The messaging platform has been testing the sharing of all type of files on its platform and the feature will be rolled out on Andriod iOS and Windows Phone version of Whatsapp, a report by WABetaInfo said on Friday.

However, the company has not confirmed on this report.

Whatsapp could be introducing this facility to allow users to share word documents, APK files and even MP3 songs on the platform, a report by Gadgest 360 said. It further added that some users from India, Japan, Kuwait and Sri Lanka have already received updates on this new feature.

This move may be a step in the direction to disallow sharing of booby-trap links on its platform that was done earlier to enable file sharing.

The WABetaInfo report also listed out a procedure to share different file formats on Whatsapp which would work in the latest WhatsApp for iOS version (2.17.31).

-- In order to send files using WhatsApp, you have to download an application from AppStore: its name is Document 6.

-- Import the file, the photo or the video that you want to share with WhatsApp, in Document 6.

-- Remember that you can also add in Document 6 other accounts, for example Dropbox and Google Drive: this action will help you to quickly select files you want to import into Document 6.

-- Open the chat where you want to send it, tap +, then select Document and choose Document 6.
