WhatsApp 'View Once' Feature: Two years after introducing the 'View Once' feature for photos and videos, WhatsApp has now introduced this feature for voice messages. This simply means that voice messages will disappear after being played once.

"For reading out your credit card details to a friend, or when you’re planning a surprise, you can now also share sensitive information over voice message with added peace of mind. For consistency with View Once photos and videos, View Once voice messages are clearly marked with the “one-time” icon and can only be played one time," the company said in a release. 

WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, said that the feature is currently being tested for Android and iOS users who are using the beta version of the app.

The company said that the feature is being rolled out globally and will be available to everyone in the coming days. It also reiterated that WhatsApp protects voice messages with end-to-end encryption by default. 

WhatsApp 'View Once' Feature - Here's how it works

Step 1: Open an individual or group chat.

Step 2: Tap the microphone.

Step 3: Swipe up to lock the recording.

Step 4: Tap and hold the record.

Step 5: Tap view once. When this turns green, you’re in view once mode.

Step 6: Tap send.

If the recipient has read messages enabled, you’ll see an opened receipt in the chat when they’ve opened your view once media or voice message.
