For all those people using Google Assistant, here is some great news about a value addition that can be very beneficial. Google Assistant provides support for various messaging apps like WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger etc. It records and sends WhatsApp voice notes and reads incoming messages from various apps. However, Google Assistant lacked the support for making calls on any of the above mentioned apps.

The voice calls commenced by Assistant was earlier used to place a network call for the user. While video calls or voice calls on the other hand, could be set up via Hangouts or Duo only. Meanwhile, Assistant is now adding support for both video as well as voice calls via WhatsApp. The latest update will bring huge relief for the users living in countries with high network call fees.

The exact command to initiate the voice or video call via third party messaging app is not yet disclosed officially. According to Google, the feature has been implemented and users can now experiment with it. In case the command isn’t working for you now, it will soon be released for everyone.

However, it is not clear if the feature will be just for phones or it can work with smart displays and speakers too. While the update can majorly support smartphone users who use Whatsapp voice calls or video calls.
