The app was initially launched as a messaging app for Android and iOS but later was turned into a photo and video sharing app. On Monday, WhatsApp completed 10 years and by now, has become one-stop solution for everything. It is also one of the most popular apps across the globe. The instant messaging platform celebrate its 10th anniversary through a blog post. "It’s been 10 years since we started WhatsApp! Over the past decade, we’ve heard from people across the globe who are using WhatsApp to stay in touch with their loved ones, connect with their communities, and build businesses. These stories continue to inspire us, and to celebrate this milestone, we’re looking back at some of our biggest moments over the years," it said.

The post added that WhatsApp is excited to continue building features that make it more simple and reliable for everyone. It also thanked all users around the world for joining the journey. WhatsApp also shared its 10-year-long journey through the post. While the company is busy working on new features, there are many existing features you might not be aware of. 

Here is a look some hidden WhatsApp features:

1. Hide last seen

How many times have you landed in trouble for being online but not being able to reply to someone? Well, the problem can be solved by hiding your last seen. This can be done using simple steps: Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen. You can use the app without giving any justification to anyone. 

2. No blue ticks

Another problem is the blue ticks introduced by WhatsApp a few years ago that let other users know that you have read their messages. Again, you can switch it off by following these instructions: Settings > Account > Privacy > Read Receipts. After this, your messages will remain unread.

3. Customise chat bax

If there is a person you talk to on a daily basis, you can create a shortcut for their contact and place it on your homescreen. For this, long press on the desired chat which will open a few options. Click on  'Add chat shortcut' tab. you can either manually place the chat box on home screen or allow the app to do so. 

4. Highlight important texts

You can bold important texts by putting asterics on both sides. Similarly, you can also italicise your text by putting underscore on both sides of the word.

5. Customise notifications

Set custom notifications for important contacts. All you need to do is open the chat by tapping on the name and hit custom notifications.
