WhatsApp is a platform suitable for fake news proliferation. WhatsApp is an app that is used these days by the Indian political parties to confuse people and get the advantage of it in the Lok Sabha 2019. Ironically, most of the Indians using the WhatsApp are well aware of it but still, it doesn't make any impact on the messaging app's popularity among Indias. According to the survey report titled “Social Media/Messaging Platforms In India,” it has been found that most of the Indian prefer to WhatsApp than any other messaging app when it comes to their choice of messaging app. The survey was done by AudienceNet — a social and consumer research agency.

The survey was conducted in February 2019 and 1520 respondents over 18 years of age gave their feedback. Out of 1520 respondents, 50 per cent accepted that they use WhatsApp every day to connect with their friends and family while 87 per cent made the revelation that they use WhatsApp on a numerous number of occasions in a day for messages. 78 per cent of the respondents showed their faith that their personal information in the WhatsApp domain is safe. On the use of the WhatsApp app for messaging, it was found that çatching up with friends' was the most popular reason for use of WhatsApp among Indians. However, many respondents said that they use WhatsApp to discuss hobbies and life-changing announcements like getting married, or engaged, getting a new job, etc., are also being done through WhatsApp messaging.

Apart from sharing their personal information, many respondents also made a revelation that they trust the WhatsApp messaging app with sensitive business data. Some of the respondents said that they use WhatsApp for sales purposes too by using the platform for getting in touch with customers in India and abroad. Over 60 percent of the respondents said WhatsApp has helped them increase sales.

Interestingly at a time fake news has been hitting the headlines and WhatsApp has been facing all sorts of accusations for this, about 87 percent of the respondents believe that the messaging app has been taking proactive steps to contain the spread of fake news on the social media platform.
