What is the FaceApp challenge?
The FaceApp was launched in 2017 and has been present on the Google Play Store for almost two years now without anyone really paying it any attention. This changed recently when people started using it to edit their images and posting them online. The app comes with several filters helping you look younger, elder and even shows you may look like if you were of the opposite gender.
How to download FaceApp?
1. Go to Google Play Store.
2. Search for the FaceApp.
3. Tap on the install option.
4. Once installed, open the app and give required permissions.
5. Upload a photo and start using filters.
The app is also available on the App Store for iOS users. However, they need to start paying after three days of usage. In India, the app’s price is Rs 1,699 per year.
Is it safe?
Several users have raised privacy concerns around the app as license terms of the app state that by using this app, the customer is granting the provider permission to use their photos, name, username, and likeness for any purpose, including commercial purposes.
However, security researcher who goes by the name of Elliot Alderson on Twitter believes that the terms are no different from what you get on other apps. "People freak out by reading the vague T&Cs of FaceApp. You know what? This is the exact same thing for all the apps you installed on your phone. Read the T&Cs of your other apps and I can bet you’ll uninstall them too. Start by Snapchat for example," he tweeted.
