WhatsApp has made it easier to connect with family and friends by allowing users to chat with up to 256 people at once. Even though there is no limit to send messages and media on WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform limits your chats if the inbox is exhausted. In such cases, the app asks you to clear or delete some chat history. Other reason to clear chat history is also to eliminate critical, personal information. Hence, if you are planning to clear your chat history on WhatsApp, here’s how you can do it -

To delete an individual chat

In the Chats tab, tap and hold the individual chat you wish to delete. Tap Delete  > DELETE.

To delete a group chat

To delete a group chat, you first need to exit the group, and then you can delete the chat.

In the Chats tab, tap and hold the group chat you wish to delete.

Tap More options  > Exit group > EXIT. Then tap and hold the group chat again and tap Delete.

To delete all chats at once

1. In the Chats tab, tap More options  > Settings > Chats > Chat history.

2. Tap Delete all chats. Individual chats will be deleted from your Chats tab, as well as Status updates. Group chats, however, will still be visible on your Chats tab, and you'll still be part of them.

On the other hand, clearing a chat allows you to clear all the messages inside a chat. The chat will still be listed in your Chats tab.

Clear an individual or a group chat

1. In the Chats tab, open the chat you wish to clear.

2. Tap More options  > More > Clear chat > CLEAR.

Clear all chats at once

1. In the Chats tab, tap More options  > Settings > Chats > Chat history.

2. Tap Clear all chats. This will clear all messages inside your chats. All chats will still be listed in your Chats tab.
